Community investment
At Barclays we manage active community investment programmes in many of the jurisdictions in which we operate. Our programme is closely aligned with Barclays overall corporate responsibility commitments and is focussed on helping local communities in two ways:
Through charitable donations we aim to help local communities and the people within achieve their goals. We particularly focus on providing grants to charities helping disadvantaged people work towards financial independence and security.
In addition, we encourage and support our employees around the world in their charitable giving and fundraising efforts through a range of employee schemes including volunteering in work time and Matched £4£ Fundraising. This is part of our responsibility as a good corporate citizen, as an employer, and as a firm.
Barclays has a long-standing tradition of investing in the communities in which it operates. In 2010, Barclays invested £55.3m, reaching more than 1.5 million people in communities around the world.
