Research and strategy

Barclays Wealth produces a range of research publications - from regular updates on evolving trends in financial markets and our recommended investment strategies, to more in-depth analyses covering (for example) the psychology and demographics of investors.

Investment strategy

Our research and strategy team has one clear mandate - to deliver first class investment advice to Barclays Wealth clients.

Our analysts, working closely with colleagues at Barclays Capital, establish a central set of forecasts for the global economy, policymakers' actions and the likely outlook for financial markets. These form a key input to the Barclays Wealth Investment Committee's recommendations on tactical asset allocation; these portfolio views are fleshed out into actionable notional portfolios that in some cases drive down to individual securities (again, working closely with Barclays Capital's analysts). Our strategists also generate narrower, stand-alone Investment Ideas.

Our monthly flagship publication, Compass, reports these asset allocation discussions and also collates the ongoing list of Investment Ideas. Updates are also available through a range of other regular publications, including (for EMEA-based clients) 'In focus', published Friday afternoon. Notional portfolios are published online.

Aaron Gurwitz, Head of Global Research, Economics and Strategy and Chief Investment Officer, and Kevin Gardiner, Global Head of Strategy, also offer their insights through regular conference calls and other events for clients.

Barclays Wealth Insights

The Barclays Wealth Insights reports, developed in partnership with external consultants and industry experts, provide a comprehensive picture of what it means to be wealthy in the 21st century. Through global research with high net worth individuals and leading wealth experts, each report provides analysis of the trends that shape the behaviours of this influential group, and of society at large.

We also publish individual white papers that explore current issues and trends in wealth around the world.

Behavioural finance

Our behavioural finance research incorporates insights from psychology to understand why investors make the financial decisions they do, the traps they can fall into, and how these individual decisions can combine to drive markets.
